We use ground truth measurements, remote observations, and AI to establish a data production pipeline that reveals greater detail over time.
Many human economic activities put greenhouse gases in the earth's atmosphere. We use satellites and other sensors to spot these emissions activities
…not just the big, obvious things but also the tricky ones that move.
…and the less obvious ones.
We combine many sources of information because the more we know about each emissions source, the better we get at finding and measuring them.
Using satellites, ground truth measurements, and artificial intelligence we build models that estimate emissions right at the source.
With more and more information streaming in from space and sensors around the globe our emissions estimates are improving by the day.

Who is building Climate TRACE?
Climate TRACE is an independent coalition of many nonprofits, universities, and companies sharing data and methods to generate the best possible global emissions inventory we can. We began as nine organizations, but are adding new contributors all the time. See our contributors. We operate primarily by consensus between contributing organizations, with a secretariat operated by committee members of the organizations coordinating cross-cutting work.
